Hello Artzy friends! It’s Tonya and I am back today with a new card for Dare 2B Artzy featuring a much anticipated new product: HOT FOIL PLATES!
I cannot tell you how excited I am that Dare 2B Artzy has come out with hot foiling plates. Currently there are two plates available in the Dare 2B Artzy online store; Make Waves and the Artzy Deco plate which I am using today.
To start off I colored all my images with Copic markers and cut them out with the coordinating die.
Next, I created the circular backdrop for my images by taking some Nuvo Aqua Shimmer powders in Falling Leaves, Blue Buzz and Atlantis Burst and sprinkled them onto a small, round Gelli Plate. I first saw Simon Hurley do this technique and it looked like fun. The key to the technique is using a small Gelli plate which make them easier to handle. Once you have the Shimmer powders sprinkled onto the Gelli plate, you spritz the plate with water. For this you do not need an abundance of water, you just want the powder to be wet but not with puddles of water.
Once you have added the water to the powder on your Gelli plate you can either flip the plate onto your paper or place the paper on top of the plate. If you do the latter, you will want to flip it over so that you can see through the Gelli plate. I used some Neenah 110lb cardstock for this technique, but you could use watercolor paper as well.
The interesting thing about this is that the Gelli plate holds the shape and does not really allow the water and color mixture to escape out from underneath (unless you use too much water). You can gently press on the Gelli plate to mix the colors around. Once you are happy with the coverage, color mixing and view underneath your plate stop pressing on the Gelli plate. Allow the plate to sit on the paper and dry a bit. This allows the water to absorb into the paper so that it retains the shape of the Gelli plate when you remove it.
After I set my paper aside and let it dry before die cutting it. I used the Double Dot Circle Framelet dies to cut out my circle and then trimmed of one side so that it would sit flush with my background.
Next, to play with the Artzy Deco Hot Foil plate. I cut several pieces of black cardstock and some from some white synthetic cardstock which is made for hot foiling. I foiled each piece of cardstock with several different colors of hot foil and even tried foiling the negative pieces. Foiling involves lots of trial and error so it is important to be patient and take steps to learn your die cutting and hot foiling machines, whether or not shims are needed and how different types of paper may produce varying results when it comes to hot foil. When I was finished foiling, I liked the look of the white synthetic paper paired with some green hot foil for my card today. The green was so pretty and complimented green in my Gelli Plate circle that I created.
I cut down my foiled background using the second largest Rectangle Framelets Die. I cut a piece of light yellow-green cardstock using the largest Rectangle Framelets die and layered them together.
I added my backgrounds to a top folding A2 size card.
My Shimmer Powder circle was added to my background with some dimensional foam. I added my Good Vibes girl and the vase with the plant to the side with dimensional foam as well.
For the sentiment, I stamped and heat embossed the You Got This with some Blue embossing powder and die cut it using the coordinating die.
I added some tiny gems to the center of the earrings and to the vase.
I am looking forward to playing some more with the new hot foil plates in future cards and videos.
Hope you have enjoyed today’s card. Thanks so much for stopping by. All the products used in today’s card are linked below for your convenience.
Hugs,
Tonya
