Hello! Hope you all had a fantastic weekend!
It’s Tonya and I am back today with another card featuring the Yeti 4 Winter stamp set from Dare 2B Artzy.
I was inspired to dig out my alcohol inks today after watching a video on Instagram where an artist was making a backsplash for a laundry room. Every time I see alcohol inks being used for art, I’m always blown away by how vibrant the colors are and how beautiful they look.
Today, I grabbed some regular photo paper that measured 4 x 6 inches. I received two large packages of this paper and I rarely print photos on my printer so I have lots of photo paper to use. I wanted to show that rather than use expensive Yupo paper or other papers made specifically for alcohol inks, you can use regular photo paper that you may already have in your stash.
I pulled out several shades of blue, teal, purple, silver, regular white and white with pearl. I was running low on alcohol ink blending solution so I used some rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle and what little blending solution I had left. I had a little issue with the alcohol inks drying chunky on my panel. I don’t know if it was the mixitives (white pearl or silver) or the fact that I was using rubbing alcohol that caused that. Luckily, I was able to wipe it away and the panel turned out fine.
Using the teal, blue and purple I dropped inks onto my background and used one of the domed foam blending brushes to just dab at the inks to get rid of the hard edges. I added in a bit of silver and some white pearl for a bit of shimmer along with a bit more alcohol sprayed on. Once again dabbing at the pools of ink and moving around the hard edges. When I was satisfied with the way the background looked, I used my foam blending brush and added some drops of silver directly to the foam pad. Then I lightly dabbed the silver onto the background with the foam blending brush. This really gave the background a lot of interest.
Next, I used an A2 size piece of cardstock and the Wavy Slimline Border Die from Dare 2B Artzy and cut the cardstock at an angle along the short edge of the cardstock.
I also cut a 2 inch circle from the center of the cardstock and cut a little border circle from some blue foil cardstock.
I wanted to create some snow on my white cardstock so I used the two small snowflakes from the Yeti 4 Winter stamp set as well as the solid small dot and small circle outline. I stamped the snowflakes using Dare 2B Artzy Blue Sky ink and a stamping block. To fill in some of the areas and complete my background, I added solid blue dots using Delicata Sapphire Blue ink and for the circle outline I used Delicata Silver ink.
To add a touch of shimmer to the snowflakes, I added dots to the tips of the larger snowflakes using my Jelly Roll Stardust pen.
Next I stamped the Yeti with the scarf holding the gift as well as a couple of packages from the Naughty or Nice stamp set onto some Neenah 110lb cardstock. I colored the images with my Copic markers adding some blue-green shades to the Yeti’s fur and some pink and yellow to the scarf. I also colored the extra packages in pink and yellow to match the Yeti’s scarf.
I die cut all of my images using the coordinating dies.
To add a bit of dimension to the card, I popped up my front panel with a bunch of dimensional foam tape, leaving a little room at the bottom of the circle so I could put my Yeti in looking through the snowy panel.
Next, I stamped the sentiment, Another Birthday onto some light blue shimmery cardstock and heat embossed with the Hero Arts Cornflower Blue embossing powder.
Using the Sentiment Strip die from the Curve Slimline Border Dies I die cut the heat embossed sentiment and layered it with another sentiment strip cut from a leftover strip of the alcohol ink background that I cut down. I layered the two sentiment strips on top of each other with some liquid glue and added it to my card panel with some dimensional foam.
Originally, I hadn’t planned on using the two gifts I stamped and colored from the Naughty or Nice stamp set, but I felt that my card needed another touch of color so I added them to the end of the sentiment strip on my card. I like the coordinating colors of the gifts and the scarf on the Yeti so I think it pulls the card together.
On the inside of the card panel, I stamped the Cool Wishes sentiment.
For a finishing bit of bling, I added some silver gems to the centers of the large snowflakes. I really like the added sparkle they give.
