Snuggly Bear Hugs

Hello and happy Wednesday crafty friends! I’m back today with another fun Dare 2B Artzy card. This time I’m featuring the ADORABLE new Teddy Bear from the new Teddy Bear Hugs stamp set. This stamp also has a coordinating Teddy Bear Hugs die set, but I didn’t use it for today’s project.

I know I could really use a snuggly bear hug. I moved over the past couple of weeks (we’re still not completely done moving) and the majority of our stuff is still packed in boxes. So that has definitely influenced my card today because I wasn’t able to find my go-to crafting supplies to pull together a card. I had to step outside of my comfort zone and reach for a few things that I don’t normally use nor have lots of practice with. I will say I still had fun though because any time I can get crafty is a good time.

First off I started by stamping the adorable Teddy Bear with black ink. I colored him with some Spectrum Noir markers. I have a very limited set of Spectrum Noir, but had just the colors that I needed to color up this cutie. I used EB5, EB6 and EB8 with a little bit of GB2 and TN7 for the body of the bear. I used a bit of a stippling technique in the areas that would be shaded to give him some texture and added in some IG8 for a bit of a deeper color in the shaded areas. I colored his overalls using TB7, TB8 and once again used IG8 for shading.

I fussy cut my little bear out and used the IG8 marker to color the edges of the cardstock. I set the bear aside and began to work on the rest of the card.

To create my background, I used the awesome new Dare 2B Artzy Swirl Stencil and some Creative Medium Texture Paste that is iridescent. I taped my stencil over a piece of dark blue scrap cardstock I found. I couldn’t locate my pallet knife in any of my boxes so I had to improvise. I used a piece of scrap watercolor cardstock to spread the texture paste onto the cardstock. I spread a fairly thin layer of the texture paste, making sure to cover all of the areas of the cardstock. When I was finished I put the excess texture paste back into the jar. I carefully removed the tape holding the stencil in place and lifted the stencil up very slowly. I set aside my cardstock and immediately went to wash off my stencil. The texture paste takes a while to dry so I set it aside overnight because I didn’t have my heat tool handy to speed up the process.

I die cut some hearts from some dies I had found in the boxes I stored my stamps in. Unfortunately, the hearts have an outline that cuts and then the center cuts a separate peice. I couldn’t find my go-to tape that I usually use to adhere the outer heart to the inner one. The only thing I could find was Washi tape which worked pretty well to hold the pieces together.  On the white heart I stamped the sentiment, “Sending you a warm snuggly bear hug.” with some black ink.

When it came to putting the card elements together, I didn’t have any dimensional foam so I just used a tape runner to adhere the bear to the heart. I cut a piece of mint green cardstock to A2 size for my card base..

My background with the texture paste swirls was finally dry. It looks so cool in person since the texture paste is iridescent it changes color in the light and when you move the card.

I used a piece of white ribbon and wrapped it around the swirls background and adhered it to the back of the card with a little tape runner. Then I tied a bow with the remaining ribbon and adhered it to the front.

I added the hearts with the sentiment and bear to the card front.

That’s my card, simple and sweet, but I really enjoyed putting it together – even if I didn’t have my usual supplies at the ready.

I will definitely need to play more with the new Dare 2B Artzy stencils, they are so versatile. I even have my eye on another one of the stencils in the Dare 2B Artzy store.
