Hello Artzy friends! I hope you had a nice weekend and that it’s warm wherever you are. We still have snow left over from the storm that dumped about 8 inches a couple of weeks ago. It’s been so cold that it never melts. I hate to say that as much as I am a fan of Winter, I am ready for Spring or Summer…anything that would melt the snow at this point!.
For my card today I really did get artzy. I was inspired after Cindy Startain’s Facebook Live in the Dare 2B Artzy FB Group last week. She was playing with her Gelli Plate and the new Hearts Stencil set. She made some really pretty backgrounds for Valentine’s Day cards.
I decided to play with my Gelli plate as well for this weeks card. This card went through a bit of an evolution as I think I used all the goop in my craft stash.
I inked up my Gelli plate with several different colors of Acrylic paints using some bright colors. I added in the Hearts Outline stencil and the smaller Heart stencil and made a couple of backgrounds with a fully inked gelli plate and my stencils.
Once my backgrounds were dry, I cut them down and started figuring out what I wanted to work with for my card.
The Heart Outline stencil had a lot of white space so I decided to put the stencil back in place. I added some ink blending in the white space using Distress Oxide Inks in Worn Lipstick and Shaded Lilac.
Do you ever have one of those days where you just can’t stop fiddling with things? You just keep tweaking things. This was one of those days.
After my ink blending, I decided I didn’t like the way it looked. I decided to add some Distress Mica Spray in Shiny Bauble (blue) and Cocktail Party (pinkish red). I put the background into a box and added a small amount of the sprays. Once the Distress Mica Spray dried it has a gorgeous sparkle and dries back a bit lighter than what you see in the bottle.
I still felt like the background needed something more so I just keep tweaking
I added some Distress Mica Sprays in Shiny Bauble and Cocktail Party. Tweak some more….
I put the Hearts Outline stencil back in place added some Lunar Paste called Clear Skies using a pallet knife. Once finished, I carefully removed the stencil and set the background aside to dry.
For the focal point of the card, I had another Gelli Plate background that I had created with the smaller Dare 2B Artzy Hearts Stencil. The background had several different colors of blue, purple and red on it. I decided to use the stencil again and add some Deco Foil Transfer Gel Duo to a few areas of the background. This would allow me to add foil to my Gelli plate background. Once the transfer gel was added, I set the background aside until the areas where the gel was added looked clear.
I grabbed some pink Deco Foil transfer sheets and cut one to the same size as the background. I placed the background in a carrier sheet and ran it through my MINC machine to heat set the foil to the background. Unfortunately I didn’t take into consideration that the foil would also adhere to the areas that had the acrylic paint on them so my results were not what I had expected. The background sort of looked like distressed mercury glass. It’s very hard to see it in the pictures.
I didn’t want the background or the foil to go to waste so I went ahead and die cut it with the scalloped heart from the Gift Bag and Box Die set.
Once the Lunar Paste on the original background was completely dry, I cut it out using the Stitched Rectangles Framelets die and added it to a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 background cut from some light pink Card stock
I cut several pink scalloped hearts and added them with some liquid glue at a bit of offset to my pink foiled heart for a bit of dimension. I added it to the background with some Redline Tape.
Next, I stamped and colored the Raccoon in the hat from the Raccoon Party Stamp set with my OLO Markers onto some Express-it Blending Card stock I used the coordinating die to cut it out and popped it up onto my heart with some dimensional foam.
For the sentiment, I cut 3 of the Love You sentiments from a pink Card stock, glued the layers together and added the shadow outline area which was cut from a pink iridescent vellum.
I added the panel to a top folding A2 size card.
On the inside, I stamped the sentiment “You Stole my heart just don’t steal my ice cream.”
I think this crazy distressed card will make a perfect Valentines Day card for my hubby. He loves ice cream so this is very fitting.
I hope you have enjoyed today’s card and that you are inspired to get out the stencils, gelli plates, paint, pallet knives, glitter pastes or whatever you have in your craft arsenal and try out some different techniques with all of that crafty goop you have. It is so much fun!
