Hope your 4th of July is a Hoot Hoot!!

Hello and Happy 4^th of July to everyone! It’s Tonya from Krafty Enchantments.com. I hope you are all having a wonderful Independence Day celebration with family and friends today! We’re having a laid back 4^th of July, since I have to go back to work tomorrow. Having a BBQ with my mom, husband and my best friend and we’ll probably sit on the back porch and watch the fireworks in the neighborhood.

Today I have a fun card to share for the 4^th of July! This card features the fun HOOT HOOT owls from Dare 2B Artzy! I love these little owls because they can be colored in so many ways. I had fun adding some patriotic red, white and blue accents to the owls today. I colored each of them with my Copic markers, but decided that they needed some holiday flare.

Once colored I fussy cut them and set them aside so that I could work on the background of the card panel.

For the background, I wanted to create a night sky. To do that I ink blended a combination of Distress Oxide Inks; Black Soot, Faded Denim, Blueprint Sketch and Broken China. From top to bottom of the cardstock panel, I blended the inks together from darkest to lightest. Once my panel was nearly all inked up, I did place a sticky note on the panel to place my fingers on to hold the panel in place while blending. Oxide inks tend to show the fingerprints until the ink is dry so it’s always helpful to have something to put your fingers on while holding it in place.

Once completed, I did take a heat tool to my background to make sure it was dry before moving onto the next step.

I wanted my cute little owls to be watching fireworks. I happened to have a Fireworks die in my stash. Originally, I’d die cut one of the fireworks using my Evolution, but the die was very detailed and it didn’t cut all the way though. I ended up cutting the rest of that out using a Xacto knife. For the 2^nd die cut firework, I utilized my Gemini electronic die cutter and I was able to cut the firework burst from my colored background panel with no problems. Yay!

To create the sparkle and shimmer of a firework, I positioned two pieces of glitter cardstock; one white and one red behind the die cut fireworks. I really love the effect it gives because it looks like real fireworks, which I think is so fun. I glued each piece of glitter cardstock in place using some liquid adhesive. Afterwards, I placed a couple of acrylic blocks on the panel to hold the panel in place with the glitter cardstock while it dries.

After the glue was dried, I stamped the Happy 4^th of July stamp from the Dare 2B Artzy Patriotic Owl stamp set. The sentiment was stamped on the panel with some Versamark Ink and I added some Ranger Ink Ultra Fine Detail White embossing powder to it before heat setting it.

Next, I took my little die cut owls and popped them up on my card with some dimensional foam.

Finally, I added some dimensional foam to the back and popped it up on a layer of white glitter cardstock. The whole panel was added to a top folding card base made from 110lb Neenah Solar White cardstock.

For a little extra sparkle and pop, I added some sequins to the card panel.
