Hello and happy Monday to everyone! My weekend seemed to zip past very quickly. Maybe it was because I got caught up in playing with my Dare 2B Artzy supplies. I was having too much fun with the new Slimline Tropical Leaf Border die and I’m excited to share today’s project featuring this fun new die set.
When I saw this new Slimline Tropical Leaf Border I knew that I needed to make some bright, bold and colorful leaves. I thought that a watercolor pen would be the best way to get the bright colors I was wanting.
I happened to get some new Colorit Watercolor Brush markers this week that I’d ordered and so I decided to try them out on today’s project. I was blown away by these watercolors. They were vibrant, easy to blend on paper and the best part is that they are refillable. YAY!
To create my Tropical Leaf Border, I ran the border die and several of the individual leaves through my Gemini Junior electronic die cutter with a piece of Canson XL Watercolor Paper. They die cut beautifully with the first past through the machine. I popped out all of the leaves easily.
Next, I used my Colorit Watercolor markers to color the individual leaves as well as the slimline Tropical Border. I used all of the greens, blue-greens, orange and yellow from the set. I scribbled ink to the die cut pieces and moved the ink around on the paper with my water brush. It was that easy! Really!
I set everything aside to dry while I colored up the image for my card front.
I knew that the perfect critter for my card front would be the Dare 2B Artzy Baby Elephant stamp set. The little elephant is just so cute and I knew he’d fit right in among all of those bright tropical leaves.
I stamped and colored the elephant with Dare 2B Artzy Totally Black ink into 110lb cardstock and colored him with my Copic Markers. I used Warm Grey 00, 0, 2, 4 and 6 and R20 to color my elephant. Once finished, I fussy cut him out.
Now that my leaves were dry, I touched up any areas that needed more color or to be blended out a bit better with a water brush.
I had a lot of greens, orange and yellow so I decided that I needed a pop of pink. I took a scrap piece of water color paper and added some Colorit fuchsia pink to the scrap and watered it down with my waterbrush to blend out the pink color. Once I was happy with the blending I set it aside to dry and then cut the tiny flower from the Slimline Tropical Leaf Border 7 times to add a pop of different color. Once they were dry I added some Nuvo Aqua Shimmer to the flowers to give them some sparkle.
To create a background for my leaves, I cut the two largest rectangles from the new Rectangle Slimline Framelet dies. I love the rounded corners on this set. For the largest rectangle, I cut a piece of the Buzzy Beez paper with the small flower pattern on the back.
For the 2nd rectangle, I cut a piece of 110lb white cardstock and layered the Slimline Tropical Leaves Border die at the bottom and added in the extra leaves that I cut in the upper corners with some liquid glue. Next, I added in the pink flowers across the bottom and top corners. I placed some large stamping blocks on top of my panel to make sure everything would stay in place to dry.
Next, I added some dimensional foam to the back of my little elephant and placed him on the card panel, slightly to the left.
For my sentiment, I used the Dare 2B Artzy Hello word die with the outline layer. I die cut the outline from white cardstock and the word Hello from some bright pink foil paper. I thought that the pink just pulled out the pink in the flowers and was a nice compliment to them. I added the sentiment to the front with some dimensional foam.
My card panel layers were added to a card base from some 110lb white cardstock. I used a corner punch to round the corners of my card base to match the rest of the card layers.
For a finishing touch, I added some little iridescent orange jewels to the centers of my pink flowers.
I love with how this card turned out. I could have water colored leaves all weekend. I had so much fun making them. I love this new die set from Dare 2B Artzy!
I hope you enjoyed my card today! I’ve listed links below to the products used in today’s card for your convenience.
Thanks for stopping by! Have a wonderful artzy week!
Hugs,
Tonya
