Good morning! Hope everyone is having a wonderful week so far. I’m back with a fun card today for Dare 2B Artzy featuring the adorable, new Stinkin’ Happy stamp set and die!! I love critters and the Dare 2B Artzy critter stamps are no exception. They are so, so cute and fun to play with.
For my card today, I’ve created a little scene. This stamp was released in July and it couldn’t have been at a more appropriate time as our family has had some critter issues of the skunk variety in our own back yard. A family of skunks decided that our backyard was a nice garden oasis for them. We were unaware that they were there until the unfortunate night when one of our dogs was sprayed when he startled a skunk on our deck in the back yard. Three nights later, both of our dogs and my hubby were sprayed when the dogs decided to gang up on one of the skunks that was on the deck. Of course, both incidents involved spraying down the dogs with a mixture of peroxide, baking soda and dish soap mixed with water and then rinsing them thoroughly. The second time, we had to wash both of the dogs on the back deck because the smell is just unreal and it lingers in the house as we learned from the first incident of bringing the dog in for a shower scrub down. So if you can imagine, hubby and I scrubbing down both dogs on our deck at 12am – it was quite the sight. Needless to say, we had to have a company come out and set a trap. While we thought we only had 1 skunk…to date, they have trapped 4 baby skunks and 1 mom as well as a baby raccoon. The bait they use is sardines – who knew?
So that’s been my stinky situation over the past month. Dogs aren’t allowed out at night without being on leashes so we don’t have any more incidents until we’re sure the summer of skunk is over.
On to my fun card, I started with stamping the single little flower from the Bouquet 4 You stamp set onto some 110lb card stock using the Dare 2B Artzy Totally Black ink and my MISTI. Next, I restamped the flower into a Post-it Note to create a mask. I then fussy cut the flower out of the Post-it Note and position it over my stamped image on the cardstock.
Next, I grabbed the little skunk and positioned it so I could see my flower mask through the stamp. I wanted the little skunk to have a flower tucked behind her ear. I positioned the stamp so that when I die cut it using the matching die that no part of the flower would be cut off by the die. Once my stamp alignment looked good, I inked it with some Totally Black ink and stamped it onto the cardstock. I peeled back my mask and revealed my cut little skunk now had a flower adornment. I think that’s so cute!!
I colored the little skunk using my Copic markers using C0, C1, C3, C5, C7 and a small amount of C9 to color her fur. I did also add a tiny amount of B000 to the white areas of the fur as well. I gave her pretty blue eyes for something different. I’m pretty sure skunks have either really dark brown or black eyes – but I haven’t wanted to get close enough to find out. I used the matching die set to cut her out.
To create my background, I die cut a piece of the Dare 2B Artzy Fields in Bloom 12 x 12 paper using the fun new wavy dies. I cut an additional piece of white cardstock using the next smaller wavy die. Using a stencil and an ink blending tool I created some fluffy, blue clouds on my die cut piece with a little soft ink blending.
Finally, I had a cute little “freebie” that came with a crafting magazine I picked up. It was a picket fence embossing folder. I thought it would be fun to add a little picket fence to my card. I embossed the picket fence onto some 110lb cardstock and trimmed it down a bit to fit my card front. I also trimmed around the top of the fence to make it a little more dimensional.
To assemble the card, I cut a top folding card base that was 5 ¾ x 5 ¾ and added the Fields in Bloom die cut paper with some adhesive on the back. Next I added my fluffy clouds background piece and then layered on top the picket fence using some dimensional foam and then added my little skunk with some dimensional foam as well.
I also stamped, colored and die cut one of the adorable little flowers in the pot and added it to the front of the card.
For a bit of sparkle I added some clear shimmer pen to the flower in the skunks fur, the fence and the little flower in the pot.
For my sentiment, I used the sentiment Life Stinks Sometimes and stamped it with Versamark and added some blue embossing powder to it and heat set it. I cut the strip down and cut one end at an angle.
To add some little embellishment, I’ve added some iridescent white flowers to the bottom of the card along the fence to make it look like flowers growing through the picket fence. I also added one to the sentiment.
So that wraps up today’s card! I hope you enjoyed my card. The new Dare 2B Artzy skunks stamps and dies are so stinkin’ cute! They are a must have in my book!!
