Hi there Dare 2B Artzy fans! Today I’m sharing a fun card I made using the Raggity Rabbit stamp set from the 2017 New Releases.
I just adore this stamp set. When I was younger I used to have a pet rabbit that we named, Harvey after the Jimmy Stewart movie which I love. I’ve always loved bunnies – they’re just too cute and cuddly and the Dare 2B Artzy Raggity Rabbit is no exception.
In creating this card, I had to create a mask so that the basket stamp would appear behind the eggs. This mask was very simple to make since it only consisted of making a mask for the eggs. The thing to remember when layering objects in stamping is that the object that will be in the very front is what you need to mask. Sometimes that’s hard to remember so it’s always good to lay out your stamps or even stamp on a piece of scrap paper to see what stamps will need a mask. Laying out my images before I stamp is always key for me as I’ve accidently masked the wrong thing and had to start over.
In this case, I created a mask for the foremost egg and the one behind it because my basket would be in the background. Normally you create a mask for each object that will be in front of something else. I created a mask using a Post-it note because my stamped images were smaller. You can use anything with a sticky back that can be easily removed without tearing the paper your image is stamped onto to create a mask. I stamped the egg image twice on the front of the Post-it note so that it was near the top edge where it was sticky underneath. I fussy cut both images.
Next I cut a piece of white 110lb cardstock down to 4 ¼ x 4 and used a scalloped edge border die and placed it at an angle to create the cute scallops on the bottom edge.
I placed my precut piece of white cardstock into my MISTI and then used my basket stamp and egg masks to figure out how I wanted them centered or off center on my cardstock. Once I had the placement, I removed the basket stamp and just stamped the egg once. I made sure to blow on the ink to be sure it was dry before placing one of my Post-it note egg masks over the stamped image so that I wouldn’t accidently smudge the ink. I also wanted to make sure that my egg was fully covered with the mask I created so that when I stamped the second egg, I wouldn’t corrupt my first image. With the first mask in place, I stamped the second egg so that it would now appear behind the first egg.
To stamp the basket I had to place both Post-it masks over each egg. Now when I stamped the basket it would appear to be behind the eggs. Once again, using the MISTI, I positioned my basket stamp with the masks over each egg. When I was happy with the position I closed the door on the MISTI and picked up the stamp with the cover of the MISTI and inked it up using the Dare 2B Artzy black ink. I closed the cover and pressed the stamp making sure to put good pressure where the egg masks would meet my stamp so that I’d get a crisp impression. The nice thing about the MISTI is that if you don’t get a good impression, you have your stamp positioned and can just re-ink and re-stamp.
Once finished, I removed my masks and was now ready to color the images. I colored the images with my Copics using the following colors for the basket and eggs:
B2, B4, B6
RV02, RV04, RV06, RV99
Y04, Y06, Y08
V1, V12, V15
E23, E25, E27
G02, G05
Next, I stamped the adorable Raggity Rabbit and fussy cut him out. I also colored him with my Copics using the following colors: E51, E53, E55, E57, E59, RV21 and YR01
To complete the different layers for the card front I used the scalloped border die again and cut some different colors of card stock at opposing angles and then stamped the two sentiments, “Think Happy Thoughts” which I heat embossed with blue on the light blue cardstock and then the “Some Bunny Loves You” which I heat embossed with white on the dark blue cardstock.
Initially, I had left the Kraft cardstock blank but decided the layer needed something so I stamped the cute carrot with the Dare 2B Artzy black ink and colored it with my Copics as well using the following colors: G02, G05 and Y38, YR16 and YR07. I always love the end result of coloring on Kraft paper with Copics.
I adhered all of my layers together and then added my fussy cut raggity bunny. I wanted to dress up my bunny before I put him onto the card so I added a small bow to his neck as well.
For a finishing touch I added some iridescent sequins to my card front.
For now, I didn’t add a sentiment to the inside, but I really think this card could be used for any occasion including Birthday, Easter or just a love note to let someone know you care.
It’s the start of a new month – whew, where does the time go?? It’s already March!! Didn’t we just celebrate New Year’s? It seems like it was yesterday.
