Scandinavian Songbird Birthday

Hello & welcome Artzy friends! It’s Tonya from the Dare 2B Artzy Design Team.

Today, I have a fun card featuring one of the new releases from Dare 2B Artzy. I decided to play with the Scandinavian Songbirds stamp set today. This stamp set has 8 images and 6 sentiments.  I love the adorable birds in this set as well as the flowers. When I saw this stamp for the first time, I knew that I wanted to create a floral frame for a card.

To begin, I laid out my frame using the 3 largest floral stamps from the set and took some ink and stamped them onto a scratch piece of paper to figure out my layout.

Once I figured that out, I stamped the same layout onto some 110lb Neenah cardstock using the Dare 2BArtzy totally black ink which is Copic safe ink.

Before removing my panel, I stamped the really tiny solid flower using three of the Dare 2B Artzy inks in Wild Orchid, Paradise and Pumpkin. I used this stamp to kind of fill in the gaps and add more interest in certain areas of the floral frame.

Next, I picked out a few Copic markers. I really didn’t have a plan for what colors I wanted to use. I just went with some bright colors.

I started out with Greens/Yellow greens for my leaves. The leaf images are super small so it’s hard to blend colors too much. I just colored a couple of shades of green as you can’t put too much detail into the small leaves.

Once I had all of the flowers and leaves colored, I decided I didn’t like the dark blue-green I used for two of the flowers on the top and bottom of the panel.  To sort of fix it (or distract from it), I added some little white dot detail to the flower with a white Jelly Roll pen. I thought that might dial back the huge contrast in colors between that and the other flowers I had colored.

When I was done, I ended up adding the White Jelly Roll pen accents to almost all of the flowers on the panel.  I liked the little added detail and interest it gave to the colored flowers.

Next, I stamped and colored the little bird with the poufy tail feathers, or at least that is what I thought they looked like.

Using the coordinating die, I cut the bird out and played around with the placement on my card panel.

Before I could decide on where to place the cute little bird, I needed to stamp the card front with the Happy Birthday sentiment. I am so in love with the fonts on this stamp set. They’re just beautiful together. I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment on my card front with some Ranger Violet embossing powder.

For my card base, I cut a piece of 110lb cardstock to 4 ¼ by 11 and scored it at 5 ½ to make a top folding A2 size card.

I added a bunch of foam tape to the back of my floral card panel and made sure it lined up with my card base by lining up the two using my scoring board.

Next, I went back and added some white jelly roll details to my song bird before I added some dimensional foam to the back of it as well. The white jelly roll just ties the adorable bird to the rest of my floral frame on the card panel.

Before I could add my colored bird to the front of my card, I decided to stamp the sentiment; Have a Wonderful Day on the inside of my card with some Dare 2B Artzy Totally Black Ink.

To tie the inside of the card to the front panel, I grabbed my smallest stamping block and stamped 3 of the tiny solid flowers from the Scandinavian Songbirds stamp set around the sentiment  on the inside of the card. I used the Wild Orchid, Paradise and Pumpkin inks for the flowers on the inside of the card panel.

Finally I was ready to add my bird to the card front.

For a bit of bling, I pulled out 3mm crystal gems and added one to the center of each solid flower that I stamped to fill in the gaps on the front of the card. These were the perfect size for the flower centers. I used a bit of Bearly Art Glue to add the gems to the card front.

That wraps up my card for today featuring the new Scandinavian Songbirds stamp and dies set from Dare 2B Artzy.
