Hello, Carrie Rhoades here back on the Dare 2B Artzy Blog. Sharing a Christmas card made with the new Just Chillin’ stamp set. Since I got this set I have wanted to make a card where the Penguins were the start of the card. I make a penguin card every year for my sister. Growing up she called them PigWigs and being her older sister, by 8 years, everything she said was the cutest thing ever. So now that we are all grown up I preserve that memory by making her a penguin Christmas card every year. I am sure it’s just as special to her as it is to me, *wink*wink*.
I decided to do something a little crazy for this card! I die cut my snowflake slimline die from black card stock! I thought using pink and black for this card would be lots of fun as penguins are black. Then I could accessorize them with pink.
I think they are such cute little penguins. I love that one has a hat and the other a scarf. I colored these images up with my Copic Markers, using Tonal Gray markers to give them the look of black.
For my background I started with a white piece of card stock that was 4″ x 5-1/4″. I ink blended on some Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide ink. I concentrated the color more at the bottom of the panel and let it get lighter as I worked my way to the top. Then I spritzed the panel with water and picked up the droplets with a paper towel, leaving a splattered look. To add to this splatter look. I used water color paint in a dark pink and splattered that over the top of the background. Then, I watered down some white acrylic paint and splattered that on as well. Lastly, I stamped the three snowflake images from this stamp set, repeatedly over the background for a fun pink wintery sky.
And that is when the black snowflake border came in, it just seemed the right fit for the penguins and had great contrast with that background.
The die cut sentiment is from the same Slimline Snowflake die set. I also die cut those from black card stock and added them to the top of the card. Once glued on I added my stamped sentiment below that, Bringing joy your way.
I popped up my penguins and gave one a balloon to hold. Then it was time to embellish the card. I pulled out some white clay snowflake from my stash as well as some black gems. I love how it turned out and I think my sister will too. Those two penguins could represent her two kids playing outside in winter.
Thank you so much for stopping by and letting me share one of my favorite holiday cards to make. Do you have a special holiday card that you make each year?
Happy Stamping,
Carrie
