Hello Artzy friends! I’m back today with a chilly winter scene featuring Penguin Plunge stamp set to create a unique holiday card.
To start, I die cut the Slimline Snowflake die from some Watercolor cardstock and set it aside.
Next, I grabbed a piece of light blue-ish cardstock from my stash. I die cut a border from the Slimline Clouds and Land die set from some scrap cardstock. I used the edge of the clouds to ink blend a cloud background onto the cardstock using Shaded Lilac Distress Ink. The finished background looks like a chilly cloudy sky with shades of blue and lavender.
Getting back to my die cut Slimline Snowflake die, I started out coloring it with watercolor pencils and added some water to move around the pencil, but ended up not liking the look of it. Rather than cutting another piece of cardstock I went for an ink-smooshing to color my snowflakes. I knew this would give me some bright, vibrant colors. I smooshed some Prize Ribbon, Wilted Violet and Dusty Concord onto my glass media mat and added a small amount of water. I pressed my cardstock into the ink on the top half of the die cut. I only wanted color on the closed snowflakes. When I was happy with the look of the ink, I put a very small amount of ink onto my media mat and added some Tonic Shimmer pen to it and brushed that onto the snowflakes that were floating on the bottom of the die. I wanted it to appear that the color was melting down into the snowflakes. It ended up being really light colored but I like the way it turned out. I set my cardstock aside to dry a bit.
While my snowflakes were drying, I stamped and colored the adorable penguin with the scarf, the ice flow (I guess that’s what you call it?) and the gift. I stamped the images with Dare 2B Artzy Totally Black ink and colored with my Copic Markers. The colors I used are listed below.
Penguin Body: W0, W2 & W5, YR18 & 14 (beak and feet), Scarf: BG11, BG13, RV52, RV55, BV04, BV02, BV13. Ice: BG000, BG11,
Once I had finished coloring, I die cut everything with the coordinating dies for the stamp set.
I cut everything down to mini slimline size, trimming the Slimline Snowflake down to 6 inches. I was happy that it can be used for both regular slimline and full size. I added that to my ink blended background with some liquid glue.
Using one of the Wavy Slimline border dies I cut a piece of light blue paper and glued the edge to the bottom of my background. I trimmed off the excess from the bottom and sides. This would be my ocean waves that my chilly little penguin would be floating on.
I added the ice and penguin with some liquid glue and popped the package up with some dimensional foam a little offset in front of my penguin.
For the sentiment, I stamped the Have a Cool Yule with some embossing ink and heat set with some Brutus Monroe Night Shift blue embossing powder.
Of course, I had to add a bit of bling to my card. I added some iridescent snowflake sequins and some gems to the center of my snowflakes with some liquid glue.
I plan to have a video up on the Dare 2B Artzy YouTube channel for this card in the next couple of days.
Thanks so very much for stopping by! Have an Artzy day! Products used to create this card are linked below.
Hugs,
Tonya
