Decking the Halls

October 24, 2022 0 Comments

Hello and welcome! I am back today with a very non-traditional colored Christmas card featuring the Deck the Halls Stamp set and the Artzy Deco Hot Foil Plate. I am still trying to ease into the holiday’s with a few Christmas cards in between my Halloween and Fall cards.

To start my card, I used the Artzy Deco Hot foil plate and some Opal foil to hot foil a piece of 110 lb Cornflower Blue card stock from my stash. I love the Opal foil because it creates a very subtle shimmer on the paper. My only complaint is that I can’t let myself get distracted while I am working with it or I forget which side is supposed to go towards the hot foil plate, LOL! It is the pretty side as always in hot foiling, but with the Opal foil, it can be very difficult to tell since it’s very transparent. The result is a beautiful hot foiled background with just a hint of shimmer.

The great thing about Hot Foil plates is that they have some other uses in the craft room so you can get more bang for your hard earned crafting money. The plates create a nice deep impression when using them as embossing plates. I sprayed an A2 piece of card stock with a fine mist of water and used my Artzy Deco Hot Foil plate along with the embossing mat from my die cutting machine to emboss a piece of white card stock

Next, I cut my hot foiled background to 4 x 5 1/4 and then used the Non-Wavy V shaped border die to die cut the top 2/3 of the hot foiled card stock

Using some glitter card stock I cut to 4 x 5 1/4, I used the Non Wavy V shaped border die again leaving about 1/4 of an inch border at the bottom that would peek out from behind my hot foiled background. The hot foiled background was glued to the glitter card stock with some Bearly Arts Glue and set aside to dry. Finally, I added both of those layers to the embossed background I made from the Artzy Deco Hot Foil plate. The layers were glued together with Bearly Artz Glue.

While I was waiting for the glued layers to dry, I stamped, heat embossed and colored two of the ornaments from the Deck the Halls stamp set. I love the retro feel for these ornaments and they are so much fun to color. I colored them with my Artify alcohol markers and die cut them with the coordinating dies.

For the sentiment, I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment, “Deck the Halls” with some navy embossing powder and used a little scalloped die to die cut the sentiment out.

I needed something to ground my ornaments to make them appear that they were hanging so I used the Mini Stars Border die and cut it from some shimmery white card stock. I was able to trim it so that I could adhere portions of the border to the top of both of my ornaments with a little liquid glue. The Mini Stars Border is very delicate so I held the pieces together with my reverse tweezers until they were dry.

The finished ornaments were added to the background with a bit of liquid glue and some foam tape to keep them level in areas that crossed over the multiple layers of cardstock..

My Deck the Halls sentiment was added at the bottom over the embossed background with a bit of dimensional foam.

The background was added to a dark blue background cut to 4 1/8 x 5 3/8 with some foam tape and then adhered to an A2 card base with some dimensional foam.

For a finishing bit of sparkle, I added some tiny gems to the ornaments with some liquid glue and then used a Gelly Roll Stardust pen to add some shimmer to the ornament toppers.

Thanks so much for stopping by, hope you are inspired to try out the Deck the Halls stamps and dies and the Artzy Deco Hot Foil plate for your holiday cards. All of the products used in today’s card are linked below.

Have a fantastic day!

Hugs,
Tonya
