Hello and happiest of Mondays to everyone! Hope your weekend was wonderful!
I have an awesome new Dare 2B Artzy slimline die to share with you today! New crafty goodies, that’s a fantastic way to start the week if you ask me!
Dare 2B Artzy has some new releases out this week. You’re going to love all the new stamps, dies and gorgeous papers! I was excited to get to play with the fun new Slimline Wildflower Background die! This die features the fun, artzy wildflower background. You may recognize the wildflower pattern from the Dare 2B Artzy Wildflower Stencil.
To create my card today, I started by playing with a new Gel printing plate that I got as a Christmas present to myself. If you’re unfamiliar, a Gel printing is about a ½ inch piece of gel that comes in many different sizes. The plate allows you to use a brayer to move inks and paints around on the gel plate to create fun backgrounds with texture and color. You can also use different objects such as feathers, bubble wrap, ribbon and of course stencils to create added textures and patterns.
I had so much fun playing with this. It’s easy to get carried away inking and making patterns. For my backgrounds I used various inks that work well with water. My gel plate is 8 x 10 so it works well for creating both A2 and slimline backgrounds. I chose 4 colors of ink and smooshed them into the gel plate and then used the brayer for mixing the ink colors. I sprayed with a fine mist of water and then placed a piece of 110lb cardstock onto the plate and smoothed it out with my fingers to pick up the ink. The end result was a fun, brightly colored textured background.
Since I had bright background, I wanted to cut the Slimline Wildflower background die from some shiny, black cardstock. I knew the Wildflowers die cut would pop against the colorful background. I used some liquid adhesive to add the Slimline Wildflower die cut to my background.
I wanted to create a few inlayed flowers with my background. However, I wanted them to be made from glitter cardstock. I didn’t have glitter cardstock that matched my colorful background exactly so I made my own. I found that I could use alcohol markers to color on a piece of fine glitter cardstock and it would match my background colors.
I ran a piece of white glitter cardstock through my electronic die cut machine. Before I removed it from the plate, I placed a piece of Glad Press ’n Seal on the back to hold all of the die cut pieces in place. The Dare 2B Artzy Wildflower Slimline die has A LOT of intricate little pieces so the Press ‘n Seal is your best friend in this process. The die cut pieces stuck to the Press ‘n Seal and that allowed me to color them with my alcohol markers. NOTE; allow the colored pieces to dry a bit before handling as the ink will come off on your skin/hands. I have a giant pink mark on my arm from my experimentation with this process, LOL!
Once the flower pieces were colored, I was ready to inlay them to the flowers using my tweezers, Crystal Katana and a fine tipped glue applicator. I ended up adding the colored glitter cardstock inlay to three of the flowers. You’ll notice them because they are the opposite colors from my background. They include the large purple one next to my gnome, the yellow-green one below the sentiment and the bright pink in the far right.
I knew the little Dare 2B Artzy Flower Gnome would be perfect for this background. I stamped and colored her with Copic markers and used the coordinating die to cut her out. I popped her onto the background with some dimensional foam tape.
For the sentiment, I used the “There’s GNOME other…. like you” and heat embossed it onto some cardstock. I went back and added the “friend” using a different color embossing powder.
I die cut the sentiment with a circle die and then cut another circle slightly larger so I could have the pink glitter frame around my circle sentiment.
For a finishing touch, I did glue some colorful gems to the center of my flowers and also over tittle in the word friend on the sentiment.
There are lots of other ideas running around in my head for the fun new Slimline Wildflower Background die so I’ll be sharing more ideas in the weeks to come.
I don’t have the link available yet for the new Wildflower Slimline die, but as soon as it’s listed, I’ll update this post and link it below for your convenience. I linked the Wildflower Stencil below just in case you’re interested as well as the other Dare 2B Artzy products used for today’s card.
I hope you’ve enjoyed today’s card!
Have a wonderful week!
Hugs
