Good Monday to you, Dare 2B Atrzy friends!!
Janette here sharing with you a card featuring Butterfly Inspiration, Playful Posies Layered and Textures!
Today’s featured medium is colored pencils, and technique is creating depth using black. Don’t be afraid to venture to the dark side! A guide to complete this card is included here, but I’ve also created a YouTube tutorial that you can find near the bottom of this post.
I began by stamping the butterfly and greenery in D2BA Totally Black ink and then used Prismacolor Premier pencils in a few olive-y shades of green, plus a turqouise and a black for the leaves. Begin with the darkest green and flick with a light hand toward the outer area of the leaf. I prefer to flick away from myself, turning the piece often. It is the same motion I use with Copic markers. With each lighter color extend the color a bit further than the last. Plan to leave a touch of a white highlight at the outer edge. Then, as the final color, go back in with black, just near the stem to achieve that deep rich depth. The contrast of the black recesses the inside of the leaf where the white on the outer edge appears to bring that side forward.
The same technique is used on the butterfly. I’ve gone from red hues to yellow, while still leaving the white highlight along the edge. I’ve used a white blender pencil to get the glow in the red outer area of the wings.
I’ve used the D2BA Textures stamp set to create gold tinsel embossing in the background, a touch of stripe and added a few clear sequins for sparkle.
This was such a fun card. Catch the YouTube video tutorial below for a more in depth look and how to. You can do this!
Check out all D2BA’s products here! Don’t forget about the newest D2BA Challenge. The current challenge is always posted in the sidebar to the right at the top.
Thanks for popping in and I hope you pop back in soon for more amazing inspiration!
Creatively Yours, Janette
