Hello and welcome! It’s Tonya from Krafty Enchantments.com.I hope you are having a wonderful week so far. We’re having some cooler weather here in Denver, but it’s bringing some ugly afternoon storms and hail. Yuck, I’m not a fan of lightening and hail!
I’m here on the Dare 2B Artzy blog again today to share another card with you.
This card is made up of some old and new. My colored background panel is a leftover from my playing around with the Tonic Shimmer Powders. This one used the Solar Flare shimmer powder. I think it’s my new favorite for the bright, bold colors that it gives. Guess it lives up to its name, Solar Flare. I sprinkled a small amount of the shimmer powder onto some Canson watercolor paper and sprayed the panel with water. Next, I moved the watercolor paper around to get the colors flowing and covering the paper. I ended up letting the panel dry completely because I was not sure how bright it was going to be, and I did go back in and add a little more shimmer powder in some areas to boost the colors a bit.
I set the panel aside to dry. When it was close to being dry, I did put some clear acrylic blocks on top of it to help flatten out the panel.
The flower is from Dare 2B Artzy’s Big Bloom stamp set. I had actually colored this quite a while ago with my Copics and used some colors out of my comfort zone: yellow and pink. I ended up not using it for a previous project because I felt that it was lacking something. I pulled out the flower and decided to use it for today’s project. I could not put my finger on what was lacking with the flower, but decided that it needed some Sparkle. I recently discovered some awesome Gel Pens from Pentel called Sparkle Pop Metallic Gel Pens. I picked up a package of them at Walmart. They have some gorgeous glitter colors and they write equally as well on white paper as they do on black and are truly colorful – they don’t just dry to a silver shimmer with no color. I decided to add some sparkle using these pens to my flower. I like the added glimmer it gave to some of the elements on the flower, I colored the little circle dots and the center flower and leaves with just a hint of glitter. It was the perfect accent for my flower.
Since I had a gorgeous shimmery yellow/pink panel I wanted to add something bold to it to make the colors pop against it. I had some glossy black paper from Tonic that I cut down and ran through my die cutting machine with the Dare 2B Artzy Trellis Background die. I love this die! It’s so pretty and intricate. Since it was so intricate, I did cut it with my Gemini as it cuts detailed dies so well with a single pass. I love the look of the black glossy lattice in front of the yellow/pink panel. It’s really eye catching.
I decided at the last minute to turn this into a shaker card. To do so, I cut a piece of acetate that was the same size as the Trellis Background which ended up being 4 x 5 ¼. Next, I used some 1/8 inch score tape and adhered it to the back of the die cut Trellis panel around all of the edges. I placed my acetate over the back of the trellis and made sure it was adhered to the score tape on all sides. This creates the window behind the trellis panel.
To add the shaker walls, I used some 3M Foam tape that I doubled up by folding it onto itself and cut down into approx. 1/8 inch wide strips to cover all of the outer edges of the trellis die. It’s important to make sure that you don’t have any gaps anywhere along the edges or the shaker elements could fall out.
Once I had the foam all around, I used my anti-static powder tool and brushed it along the inside edges of the foam tape. This helps to keep the shaker elements from getting stuck to the foam tape and helps them to move freely.
I sprinkled in some small clear crystals and some tiny yellow flower sequins, the mixture works well with the background of my card.
Finally, I placed the water colored background on the back of the foam tape to close the shaker. The shaker panel was added to an A2 Size top folding card base made from some Neenah 110lb Solar White Cardstock.
I layered my Bold Blooms flower on top of the glossy Trellis die cut with some dimensional foam. My sentiment is from the Wishing Happiness stamp set. I stamped the Thank You onto some vellum with some Versamark ink and then heat embossed it with some pink embossing powder. I wasn’t sure about where to place the sentiment, but ultimately ended up adding it at an angle to the card and trimmed one end at an angle to line up with the card edge.
For a finishing touch, I added some yellow-gold sequins to the card front.
That’s my card for today. I hope you’ve enjoyed it. I don’t make shaker cards often and I don’t know why because I like the way they look and they’re so much fun to give to friends. Hope you’re inspired to create a shaker card using some awesome Dare 2B Artzy stamps and dies.
Thanks for stopping by!
Hugs
