Sometimes it is hard for me when Christmas card making season is over to make something that isn’t decking the halls. That’s when I turn to some of my favorite stamp sets and favorite techniques. For this card the stamp set is Honey Bears. The technique is simple ink blending with splatter. Ink blending still makes me so happy and I always love the results.
I started with the background. I knew I wanted to use this darling plaid paper from the Honey Bear pack. That is where my color inspiration came from. I picked the cardstock for my hill to match the light teal color in this paper. I die cut the top of this card stock with this wavy die from the Wavy Slimline Border dies. For my ink blended background I started with a white piece of card stock that measures 8-1/2″ x 3-1/2″. I ink blended from the top with Mustard Seed Distress Oxide ink and from the Bottom with Worn Lipstick. I love the honey like glow these colors made together!
Then I spritzed the background with water. But I wanted even more splatter, so I splattered this panel with each of the distress oxide colors I used on this card. And to top it all off I pulled out some metallic watercolors and splattered on some gold.
I also used the metallic watercolors to add some splatter to my hill in a color that I thought closely matched the cardstock and one that was a bit silvery. I am in love with all the yummy splatter on this card.
Here in this close up photo you can see all the splatter! And in the top right corner you can see the first of the drips on this card! Watch for it in each pic.
Now that the background was complete I set that aside and stamped the images I wanted to use for this card. Which was all the bears and the two big bees. I used the Dare 2B Artzy Totally Black ink pad so that I could color the images in with my Copic Markers.
I thought some black bears would look good with the gray/black stitching detail in the printed paper.
Can you see the dripping honey at the top of the card?!?
Below I have listed the exact Copic Markers I used on this card so you can replicate them if you like.
Bear: W8, W6, W4, W2
Overalls, Pants, Hat, Vest: BG10, BG13, BG72
Honey and Bees: E13, Y17, Y15
Honey Pots: E23, E13, E10, E00
Cheeks, Flower, Vest: R43, R32
Then I set to adhering all the piece together. I placed my image where I thought I would like them so I could get an idea of where to stamp my sentiment and tiny bees. Once they were stamped. I adhered all the pieces to the ink blended panel. The bears and bees are popped up with foam squares. This panel was then adhered to a card base that measures 8-1/2″ x 7″, scored at 3-1/2″.
The very last step was to add the glaze across the top of the card to look like dripping honey. I love adding in little details like this, they make the card even more special.
Thank you so much for stopping by and letting me share with card with you.
Happy Stamping,
Carrie Rhoades
